Return On Investment

ROI = Return On Investment.

It sounds complicated but it's amazingly simple.

Return On Investment simply means that if you sock away or invest a certain amount of money, what percentage do you get back as a Return On your Investment every year. The higher the ROI, the better.

Banking: If you put $100.00 in the bank and leave it there, you'll get back, with 5% interest, $5.00 a year. $5/$100 = 5% ROI.

Credit Cards: If you pay off $100.00 on your credit cards, you save the typical 20% annual interest of $20.00. $20/$100 = 20% ROI.

Stock Market: If you invest $100.00 in the stock market, anything can happen. Nowadays, there is a lot of risk in stock investments. There is never a sure return, and you could lose money. ?/100 = ? ROI.

Business Formation and Expansion: If you invest $100.00 in the formation or expansion of your business you do it exactly for this reason - ROI. The actual return can vary a lot and may take some time to grow to the level you predict. ?/100 = ? ROI.

Home - ALL Proposal: For the All Example, $535 of new lighting is purchased to save $593 per year on electricity.

$593 Saved/$535 Cost = 111% ROI.
(This makes you a smart investor!)

Home - BEST Proposal: For the Best Example, $323 of new lighting is purchased to save $569 per year on electricity.

$569 Saved/$323 Cost = 176% ROI.
(This makes you a wise investor!)

Home - BUDGET Proposal: For the Budget Example, $119 of new lighting is purchased to save $400 per year on electricity.

$400 Saved/$119 Cost = 336% ROI.
(This makes you, like a financial genius!)

Lighting Upgrades - Risk: If electric rates go down you won't save as much. Not much risk there, now is there?

Conclusion: There is no better and more reliable investment that you can make than a Lighting Upgrade. Doing nothing is like saying "I'd rather give my money to the Electric Company than put it back in my pocket" or "Who cares if we ever become Energy Independant". That's why we like to say

"It's The Light Thing to do!".

The other Phases on Your Orbit to Energy Independence are also good investments. However, they are more variable for various reasons. Phase II, Plug Load, can be user dependant and Phase III, V & VI are dependent on the weather. They can be predicted with a reasonable level of confidence and we will do this for you for each of those Phases, but for the purposes of this ROI demonstration, Lighting Upgrades give the best demonstration. Phase IV, Appliances, can also be predicted pretty good but requires a much bigger investment than lighting.
