Phase VII - Renewable Energy

Renewable Energy: By way of Phase I, Phase II and Phase IV you reduce your total Electric Load and your A/C Load because a lot less heat is emitted from your Plug-Loads and Lighting. Phase III and Phase V buttoned up your facility. Phase VI made your HVAC as efficient as possible. So now it is time to disconnect from the grid!

If you can pull this one off you are Energy Independent! And if we can do it individually so can the whole of our country.

Renewable Energy: Your choice for renewable energy is totally site dependent. Sunny - Solar, Shaddy - Fuel Cell, Windy - Wind, or combine them!

  • Virtual Energy Independence: Before you invest in your own RE System you may be able to buy in via utility choice programs. Just select the hydro, wind and/or solar options as they are all home-grown.
  • Solar: Take full advantage of your southern exposure.
    • Solar Hot Water Heater for Hot Water.
    • Photovaltaic (PV) Array for electricity generation.
  • Wind: Take full advantage of you windy coastal or elevated site.
  • Fuel Cell: Take advantage of the weather independence of Fuel Cells.

Net Metering: More and more utilities are offering net metering where once a year you reconcile your energy use from the grid. The goal is to break even. They don't pay much for your excess and you pay too much for your shortfall. The beauty of this is that you can bypass the whole battery storage element of your installation. So if you are already on the grid you stay that way and install electronics and a meter that will literally spin backwards when you are generating excess power. On the other hand, if you are building a home or cabin far away from utility wires you would need a battery system to store electricity for the night (solar), cloudy days (solar) and calm days (wind).
