Phase II - Basic Plug Load & Thermostats

Plug Load: Plug Load is simply any and everything that you plug into outlets except for lamps which were addressed in Phase I and your major appliances which will be addressed in Phase IV.

Addressable Plug Loads: Some of these provide predictable savings. Others are dependant on behavior modification and may not be reliable. If you have a lot of PCs and/or televisions there can be significant savings here. We take Wattage measurements and talk to your peeps to help to quantify the predictable savings.

  • Personal Computers
  • Printers
  • Battery Back-Up
  • Coffee Machines
  • Water Coolers
  • Copiers
  • Calculators
  • Televisions
  • Entertainment Centers
  • Stereos

Energy Efficiency Methods:

  • THE ON/OFF BUTTON!
  • Power Strips
  • Timers
  • Power Save Settings

Unaddressable Plug Loads: These provide little opportunity for savings. You simply need them on the ready at all times.

  • Cordless Phones
  • Cable Boxes
  • Fax Machines
  • Microwave Oven
  • Alarm System

Thermostats: Most people are pretty good with their thermostats. However, if you find that you are coming come to an empty hot house or waking up to a hot house you may benefit by changing your manual Thermostats to Programmable Thermostats. They are pretty cheap and do-able by yourself if you're handy. What's best is that you can set it to heat up the house say a half hour before you get up so you get out of bed to a comfortable house rather than a chilly one. This feature will probably allow you to set the night temperature lower while you sleep thereby saving in the longrun.
